ABOUT FRED
POLHEMUS. Over the
last 35 years, Fred Polhemus has spent much of his life on rivers, ponds,
lakes and the open ocean in pursuit of fish and fowl. A lifelong and
passionate angler and hunter, his affinity for the outdoors has lead him
to where he is today – a representative of the very finest contemporary
sporting artists. Second only to his passion for the pursuit of game is
his interest in and appreciation for the arts.
A graduate of Connecticut College where he studied art and art history, he
was influenced by art at an early age. His grandparents were artists - His
grandmother an oil painter and member of the Art Student’s League of New
York and his grandfather, a watercolorist and renowned architect, who was
chosen among an elite group of artists to compete in the Prix de Rome back
in the early 1900’s. Working with today’s premiere sporting artists has
brought all of his passions into one focus.
His tenure in the art world has included managing the Print Division of
the Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport Museum, where he designed and
executed many successful direct-marketing campaigns. These projects
included working closely with organizations such as the America’s Cup
Organizing Committee, the State of Connecticut, the Museum of Yachting and
other various organizations and not-for-profit foundations.
He went on to help open and manage the Big Horn Gallery in Fairfield, CT,
where he undertook the marketing and PR efforts, as well as serving in a
sales role. Additionally, he served as a Business Development Manager for
Big Horn’s parent company, Greenwich Workshop, collaborating on several
major publishing projects with organizations such as Universal Studios,
Imagine Entertainment and SKG Dreamworks.
In recent years, his focus has been specifically in the sporting art
arena, working with today’s premiere artists. He has developed a diverse
portfolio of the finest practitioners in this genre of art and proudly
represents their work to collectors exclusively through hosted events and
the J. Russell Jinishian Gallery. |
