Son of Charles Gruppe, Emile acheived his own fame as a member of the Cape Ann School of Artists. He was the Director of the Gloucester School of Painting at Rocky Neck on Smith Cove in Gloucester, Massachusetts from 1940-1970. This is a classic painting of his, of a subject he knew well and painted often.
