Interesting maritime museums to visit around the world…
Over the last 40 years, I’ve been fortunate to travel to many of the world’s Maritime Museums to see the historic ships, paintings, ship models, and artifacts, and to learn more about the role of ships in commerce, and the spread of civilization.
Here is a selection of museums both near and far, that I have found particularly enjoyable:
Within the United States:
Mystic Seaport is located In Mystic, Connecticut, just a ten minute drive from my art gallery.
Climb aboard the CHARLES W. MORGAN, the last of an American whaling fleet that numbered more than 2,700 vessels. Built and launched in 1841, the ‘Morgan’ is now America’s oldest commercial ship still afloat—only the USS Constitution is older.

The Peabody Essex Museum (PEM), a world-renowned museum of Art and Culture is located in the heart of downtown Salem, Massachusetts.
For over 220 years, PEM has been dedicated to collecting, preserving, and showcasing compelling artwork throughout history and from around the world. The museum was founded in 1799 by Salem sea captains, exploring a global array of art, history and culture, including a 200-year old Chinese home.

The Penobscot Marine Museum is located in Searsport, Maine.
The Penobscot Marine Museum is Maine's oldest maritime museum and is designed to preserve and educate people regarding Maine's and Searsport's rich and unique maritime and shipbuilding history. Searsport is noted for its rich maritime history. During the 19th century the port had 17 shipyards and built 200 ships, while supplying fully one-tenth of the United States' merchant marine deep water captains. The ‘Museum In The Streets’ is a walking tour along the streets of Searsport.
