Awaiting the Tide on Nantucket Sound

oil on canvas, 24” x 48”

$30,000

This gorgeous painting captures a still moment on Nantucket Sound- in the manner of America's first Maritime painter, Fitz Henry Lane (1804-1865) - when an astonishing variety of vessels are seen awaiting a breeze, and movement of the tide, as the sunset gives a warm, orange glow to the scene. From left to right: A Coastal trading schooner, Boston Pilot Boat #2, LOUISE, a Steam Tug, a small Rowing Wherry, another Topsail Schooner in profile, Nantucket Whaling Ship NAUTILUS, and on the far right, another whaling vessel.

Framed Dimensions: 32” x 56”
