William F. Settle

(1821 - 1897)

William Frederick Settle was born in Hull, in Yorkshire, England. He was celebrated for his maritime scenes and was even commissioned by Queen Victoria, for whom he designed nautical Christmas cards and painted for the Prince Regent. He also was a marine painter for the Royal Scottish Yacht Club. His works can be found in the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, the Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, Massachusetts, and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
