Don't see just the right work of art on our website?

Looking to fill a particular space?

Consider commissioning one of our artists to create exactly what you’re looking for. It might be a favorite vessel, harbor, historic event or special memory.

Over the past 40 years we have helped hundreds of collectors through the process of commissioning a painting, sculpture or ship model. They have always found the process enjoyable, and the results rewarding.

There is no extra cost to have an artist create a commissioned work of art, and you will have direct input into the subject specifics such as location, weather, even time-of-day — also the coloration, viewpoint and of course, the size.

It is a collaborative process designed to ensure the resulting work of art is just as you expected it to be. Feel free to call me directly anytime to discuss the details of the process.

To commission a custom piece of art:

The process is simple. Call me and I will guide you through these steps:

  1. Choose a subject matter.
Often people are interested in an ancestor’s ship, a favorite harbor, a special boat, a moment in Naval History, etc.

  2. Choose a size and medium.
Many of our artists paint in oils, but some paint in watercolors. You might even want a sculpture.

  3. Determine your budget.

  4. Select one or more artists whose style you like.
We can discuss which artist might best suit your tastes and needs. (see our artist’s page.) I will contact the artist to check their availability and schedule.

  5. An artist will create one or more sketches.
We will send the sketches to you for your review, make changes or comment upon. (See the examples below.)

  6. We’ll review the sketches with the artist.
You can make suggestions and changes. If needed, the artist will create a revised sketch.

  7. The artist begins the final painting.
