I invite you to come and enjoy some of the greatest marine and sporting artists of our time.” Through close contacts developed over the past 30 years with the world's top marine and sporting artists, the J. Russell Jinishian Gallery is proud to offer discriminating collectors unparalleled access to the very best marine and sporting art available in the market. If you’re looking for something with special personal significance, the gallery will help to arrange a unique commissioned work of art. A special service is also available to help collectors sell work from their collections. Changing exhibitions and opportunities to meet the artists are offered throughout the year.

J. Russell Jinishian is recognized as the nation's leading authority on contemporary marine art with over 35 years experience in the art field. Mr. Jinishian is the author of Bound for Blue Water, considered the Definitive Guide to Contemporary Marine Art and is publisher of Marine Art News magazine since 2001, the world’s only magazine devoted to Marine Art. He is the former Director of the Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport Museum. From 1985 to 1995 he represented over 300 of the top marine artists from around the world, sponsoring many groundbreaking exhibitions including the first-ever American exhibition by the British Royal Society of Marine Artists and the Dutch Society of Marine Artists. He then served as Director of the Big Horn Galleries in Fairfield, Connecticut, which also operated galleries in Aspen, Colorado, in Carmel, California and Cody, Wyoming. Since 1997, he has operated the J. Russell Jinishian Gallery, and continues to lecture nationally on marine art and collecting. For several years, beginning in 1997, he was a contributing editor to Nautical World Magazine, penning the popular “Bridge Wing” column. He continues to write widely on the subject of marine art and art for publications like Sailing, Sea History, Windcheck, and others. He studied Art and Art History at the Sir John Cass School of Art in London and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Cornell University. He served as juror for many exhibitions including three years for the prestigious National Art for the Parks Exhibition. He sits on the Advisory Board of the National Maritime Historical Society. He is a member of the New York Yacht Club, and an honorary member of the American Society of Marine Artists.


Sporting Art Specialist. With over twenty-five years experience in the fine art industry, Fred Polhemus is an expert in the field of contemporary sporting art working closely with today’s top practitioners, developing strong partnerships and knowledge of the nation’s leading sporting artists. He is the nation’s foremost authority on sporting art’s premier watercolorist Arthur Shilstone. In 2011, he designed and launched Shilstone’s first-ever retrospective exhibition, incorporating more than 70 years of work. He has contributed to articles in publications including Western Art & Architecture, Virginia Sportsman, Wildlife Art Magazine and Gray’s Sporting Journal. For several years he has worked closely with The Orvis Company, and has provided support for art exhibitions with organizations such as the International Game Fish Association in Florida, and Newport Harbor Nautical Museum in California. He serves on the Board of the American Museum of Fly Fishing in Vermont, and provides guidance on art acquisitions for the Museum’s permanent collection. He has held many management roles with the Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport Museum, Big Horn Gallery and Greenwich Workshop Galleries, collaborating on several major publishing projects with organizations such as Universal Studios, Imagine Entertainment and SKG DreamWorks. Fred graduated from Connecticut College where he studied art and art history.
