The first Bill Duffy painting we ever saw was about ten years ago. At
first it appeared to be just a small, quiet, unassuming painting of
lobster traps piled next to an old shack, yet at second glance, there was
a light and atmosphere that kept drawing us back again and again. It was
right then that we knew that this was a special artist. It's no wonder
that Bill's wonderful paintings have attracted the attention of
enthusiastic collectors nationwide. Part landscape, part marine, these
paintings have the broad scope of the great Hudson River scenes, with a
feeling for nature that captures the timeless essence of a particular
place.
Duffy himself says it's impossible for him to paint a place unless he has
a special feeling for it and it's this personal connection that charges
his paintings with such emotion. He says, "Landscape paintings for me are
a means to explore composition and express deep-seated spiritual
sentiments. I search out places that are conducive to these ends."
Recently he journeyed to Nantucket and developed a deep attachment for the
special shorescapes there. Intrigued by his grandparents' stories of the
enchanted land they left behind, Duffy also traveled through Ireland
soaking up the landscape.
A graduate of the School of the Worcester Art Museum of Clark University,
Bill has had a long and distinguished career in the field of illustration.
His recent paintings have garnered him numerous Awards of Excellence at
Mystic Seaport's International Exhibitions.
